State organizations looking to enhance their disaster preparedness and response efforts are encouraged to apply for grants from the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. Applications are due by Sept. 15, 2011.

The AVMF offers startup grants and matching/challenge grants through its Animal Disaster Relief and Response Fund. Startup grants of up to $5,000 are available to qualified state VMAs and 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) organizations in the early stages of disaster preparedness and response planning.American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF)

Matching/challenge grants of up to $20,000 are available to those who are further along in the disaster preparedness and response process. Matching/challenge grants can be used for expenses related to state training and training-related activities, medical supplies, and disaster response–related equipment.

In 2011, the AVMF has awarded $85,000 in state grants to five organizations (see JAVMA, Feb. 15, 2011).

To apply for a state grant, log on to www.avmf.org, or contact Cheri Kowal, AVMF program and administrative assistant, by telephone at (847) 285-6691.
