Event: Annual meeting/Applied Animal and Public Health Research and Extension Symposium, Nov. 13, 2010, Minneapolis
Program: The meeting and symposium were held in conjunction with the annual meetings of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians and the United States Animal Health Association. Educational topics included dairy calf health and welfare, secure milk supply planning, Cryptosporidium infection, Salmonella in live poultry, and pandemic H1N1 influenza.
Business: Discussions were held on the formation of a promotion and recruitment subcommittee to increase the visibility of the AAEV within the veterinary profession. The organization's website has been reorganized and will feature links to veterinary extension programs in all states, where available. Bylaws and incorporation changes were also discussed. A membership survey is in development and will be distributed in the near future.

Awards:J.T. Mercer DVM Lifetime Achievement Award: Dr. Gary Bullard, Austell, for exemplary leadership and service to the veterinary profession. A 1969 graduate of the University of Georgia, Dr. Bullard owns Bullard Animal Hospital in Austell. He is a past president of the Georgia VMA, served as its delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates from 2003-2010, and is a past chair of the AVMA House Advisory Committee. Dr. Bullard is also past president of the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine, Greater Atlanta VMS, and Westside Emergency Clinic. A member of the AVMA Political Action Committee, he has also served on the AVMA Legislative Advisory, Veterinary Leadership Conference Planning, and State Advocacy committees. Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Beckey Malphus, Thomasville. A 1996 graduate of the University of Georgia, Dr. Malphus is a partner at Clanton-Malphus-Hodges Veterinary Hospital in Thomasville. She is immediate past president of the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine and serves as a director on the board of the American Association of Veterinary State Boards.
