The Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine will hold its 24th Annual International Exhibition on Animals in Art next spring, and organizers are seeking entries.
The event will run from March 26-April 24 and will kick off with an opening reception in the school's library.
"Jack, Jill and Bill," an acrylic by Michael Nevin of Elmhurst, Ill., received a Judge's Award at the
2010 International Exhibition on Animals in Art at the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine.
The judge and juror for this year's event is Diane Mason, an artist from Berthoud, Colo. She is the president of The Society of Animal Artists and the recipient of the Best of Show award at the 2010 International Exhibition on Animals in Art for her bronze sculpture, "Who's Looking at Who?" The exhibition is open to artists 18 or older. All art media are welcomed; the work must be original.
A $1,000 Best of Show award will be given, and one entry will be chosen to appear on the cover of JAVMA.
Work must be for sale and priced; a 20 percent commission will be taken by the school on all sales. Plus, works must meet the spirit of the "Animals in Art" exhibition to be considered for acceptance.
Entrants must submit their artwork in the form of 2-by-2-inch, mounted 35 mm slides or digital images on a compact disk. Only one slide or digital image should be submitted for each 2-D work, and a maximum of three slides or digital images may be submitted for each 3-D work. Each slide or compact disk must be labeled with name, title, and medium, and each slide must indicate the top of the artwork. The maximum size for entry is 60 inches by 60 inches by 48 inches.
A nonrefundable $15 fee for each entry must accompany the entry form. Artists should make a check or money order payable to Louisiana State University with the note "Animals in Art entry" in the memo line. Entries are due by Jan. 7.
Proceeds will benefit special programs of Louisiana State's veterinary school, including the Wildlife Hospital of Louisiana.
Entry forms and information are posted at www1.vetmed.lsu.edu/PDFs/item20425.pdf.
