Dr. Larry G. Adams of the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine was chosen by the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges to receive the 2009 national Pfizer Teaching Award, the most prestigious teaching award in veterinary medicine in the United States. The award was presented March 13 at the AAVMC annual meeting.
The 1984 Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine graduate joined Purdue's veterinary faculty in 1991 and has been repeatedly recognized by his current and former students, peers, and supervisors as an outstanding instructor. Dr. Adams was inducted into the Purdue University Teaching Academy in 2006, an honor awarded to only five university faculty members per year.
Dr. Adams was one of three faculty members who led the development of a series of problem-based learning courses for students in the first two years of the DVM curriculum and the implementation of third-year core and elective courses at the Purdue veterinary school. His work in consensus building among the faculty led to an overwhelmingly positive vote for the curricular revision in the mid-1990s.
The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association presented two new awards at the North American Veterinary Conference, Jan. 19.
