Danny R. Cary

Dr. Cary (OKL '86), 50, Bixby, Okla., died July 13, 2009. He owned Cary Animal Hospital, a small animal practice in Glenpool, Okla. Dr. Cary was a member of the Quality Deer Management Association and founded the QDMA of Green Country. Active in civic life, he served on the Glenpool Chamber of Commerce. Ernest S. Feenstra

Dr. Feenstra (MSU '42), 91, Manistee, Mich., died Aug. 31, 2009. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, he retired in 1981 after working more than three decades for UpJohn Company in Michigan. During that time, Dr. Feenstra worked in drug safety and experimental pathology and toxicology, and later he served as group manager of the Pathology and Toxicology Research Department and Research Animal Services.

He was a member of the American Association of Pathologists and Bacteriologists, International Academy of Pathology, and Society of Toxicology. Dr. Feenstra was also a member of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine, Wildlife Disease Association, and Michigan VMA. He was a life member of the Michigan Audubon Society and served as chairman several times.

Dale R. Hill

Dr. Hill (COL '73), 64, Klamath Falls, Ore., died May 12, 2009. He was a mixed animal practitioner.

Michael L. Horton

Dr. Horton (OSU '72), 62, Fairborn, Ohio, died July 31, 2009. A retired Air Force colonel, he was the owner and president of Fairborn Animal Hospital. Dr. Horton was a member of the Ohio and Miami Valley VMAs and the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. A civic leader and avid conservationist, he volunteered with Fairborn Parks and Recreation, Fairborn Police Advisory Board, and Fairborn Education Foundation.

Dr. Horton received several honors, including the Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce Award of Civic Excellence and the Best Veterinarian Award from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and ASPCA Animal Watch Magazine. Harry Nichiporuk

Dr. Nichiporuk (GA '67), 90, Davidsonville, Md., died July 20, 2009. He was a small animal practitioner. An accomplished violinist and trumpeter, Dr. Nichiporuk was a member of the Navy Band from 1942-1944 and the Air Force Orchestra from 1944-1960. He was also a member of the American Federation of Musicians. Dr. Nichiporuk is survived by a daughter. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3, North Gambrills, MD 21054.

Arthur H. Peck

Dr. Peck (UP '50), 86, Westminster, Md., died Aug. 2, 2009. Prior to retirement in 1985, he owned a mixed animal practice in Westminster. Following graduation, Dr. Peck practiced in Concord, N.H., focusing on dairy medicine. From 1951-1952, he worked as a regulatory veterinarian for the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Dr. Peck then moved to Westminster, where he became a partner in the practice he eventually took over.

A past president of the Maryland State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners and the Maryland and Western Maryland VMAs, he was twice appointed to the Board of Review of the Maryland Department of Agriculture. Dr. Peck was a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, Maryland Wildlife Administration Science Advisory Board, and National Wildlife Health Foundation.

Active in civic life, he chaired the Carroll County Commissioners and the Carroll County Farm Museum Board of Governors. Dr. Peck was a member and past president of the Westminster Rotary Club and was honored as an Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 2001. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army, receiving the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Combat Infantryman Award.

Robert E. Smith

Dr. Smith (ONT '56), 77, Brantford, Ontario, Canada, died Sept. 13, 2009. From 1978 until retirement in 2004, he owned a small animal practice in Brantford. Earlier in his career, Dr. Smith had a house call practice and owned Englewood Veterinarians in Indianapolis. He was a founder and past president of the Ontario VMA and Erie Veterinary Association. Dr. Smith was also a member of the American Animal Hospital Association.

Active in civic life, he served on the Brantford City Council from 1992-1994. Dr. Smith is survived by his wife, Shelia; two sons; and two daughters. Memorials may be made to the Burn Unit of Hamilton General Hospital, 237 Barton St. E., Hamilton, Ontario, Canada L8L 2X2.

Leon F. Striegel

Dr. Striegel (IL '53), 86, Ocean Springs, Miss., died May 10, 2009. He was past owner of Striegel Animal Hospital in Carbondale, Ill. Dr. Striegel was a member of the Illinois State VMA. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the American Legion. Dr. Striegel served on the board of directors of the John A. Logan College Foundation and was active with the Elks Club. His wife, Orpha, and four sons survive him. Memorials may be made to John A. Alvin R. Tabor

Dr. Tabor (TUS '95), 45, Pasadena, Calif., died Aug. 10, 2009. He practiced small and exotic animal medicine at Vetco Hospital in Pasadena. Dr. Tabor was a member of the California and Southern California VMAs. His wife, Kelli, survives him. Joel P. Vasgaard

Dr. Vasgaard (MIN '05), 30, Watertown, S.D., died Sept. 6, 2009. He practiced at Lake Area Veterinary Clinic in Watertown, focusing on equine medicine. Dr. Vasgaard also assisted at the Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown.

Dr. Whittaker (UP '79), 55, Aspers, Pa., died July 26, 2009. She was a mixed animal practitioner.

Lisa A. Yetman

Dr. Yetman (TUF '96), 39, Spring Hill, Fla., died July 30, 2009. She practiced at the Hillside Veterinary Hospital in Spring Hill. Earlier in her career, Dr. Yetman worked at South Berwick Veterinary Hospital in South Berwick, Maine. Her husband, Kevin Bear, and a stepson survive her.
