Event: 102nd annual meeting, Sept. 18-21, Denver
Awards: Veterinarian of the Year: Dr. Scott Carpenter, Arvada. A 1987 graduate of Colorado State University, Dr. Carpenter owns Arvada West Veterinary Hospital. He exemplifies the contributions the profession makes not only to animal health but also to a state's economic viability. Dr. Carpenter volunteers with several rescue organizations, and he provides continuing education opportunities for Colorado veterinarians and technical support staff about new anesthetic and analgesic drug protocols. Distinguished Service Award: Ralph Johnson, Denver, for outstanding service to the advancement of veterinary medicine in Colorado over an extended period. With 25 years of experience in corporate and not-for-profit settings, Johnson is executive director of the CVMA. Since assuming the position in 2000, Johnson has helped further the role and reach of the association in Colorado in a way that goes beyond his position. Industry Partner of the Year: Dr. Bob Danielson, Caldwell, Idaho, for his longtime support of the association and individual veterinarians via his service as director and president of the Western Veterinary Conference, and founder, president, and chairman of Vedco and the American Veterinary Distributors Association. A 1964 graduate of Kansas State University, Dr. Danielson retired in January 2008 after 17 years with MWI Veterinary Supply. Earlier in his career, he worked for Hoffmann-LaRoche and Jones Veterinary Supply. Rising Star Veterinarian Award: Dr. Christina Peters, Steamboat Springs. A 2003 graduate of Kansas State University, Dr. Peters practices at Pet Kare Clinic in Steamboat. She serves as a district representative for the Colorado VMA and volunteers with the Steamboat Springs Animal Shelter. Outstanding Faculty Award: Dr. Rodney A. Rosychuk, Fort Collins. A 1974 graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, Dr. Rosychuk is an associate professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Colorado State University. A diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, he is known for his expertise in small animal dermatology and ear anatomy and disease. Technician of the Year: Hilary Ward, Englewood. Ward works at the Dumb Friends League and part time at Tender Touch Animal Hospital. She served with the Colorado State Animal Response Team in Texas after Hurricane Rita. Ward has volunteered at several feral cat clinics via Alley Cat Allies and TTAH. President's Award: Drs. Aubrey Lavizzo, Denver; Eric Smith, Colorado Springs; and Todd Towell, Erie.
