Five disaster-related training sessions will be funded by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation in 2008.

This marks the first group of sessions to be sponsored by the Foundation since it announced the new program earlier this year.

Under the program, AVMF sponsors state, regional, or national training sessions aimed at preparing veterinarians to care for animals before, during, and after a disaster. Up to $5,000 is available per session.

The five organizations, each receiving $5,000, and the sessions sponsored are as follows: Delaware VMA, 2009 Spring Continuing Education Meeting: Disaster Preparedness for Veterinary Professionals; Massachusetts VMA, New England Regional Emergency Preparedness Conference for Veterinarians; New Jersey VMA, Veterinary Emergency Response Team Training; Suncoast Veterinary Association/Florida, 2008 Tampa Bay Regional Disaster Preparedness Symposium; and Utah Emergency Animal Response Coalition, Emergency Sheltering and Response Training For Veterinarians and Staff.
