AVMA offers informational resources on microchipping
The AVMA has released two resources on microchipping of animals—a backgrounder and answers to frequently asked questions. The backgrounder provides information on microchip types and standards, microchipping in the United States and other countries, and the benefits and challenges of using the devices. The document also covers adverse reactions, microchips and cancer, references, and where to look for more information. The frequently asked questions document answers questions such as what a microchip is, how it is implanted into an animal, and what type of information it contains. Topics also addressed include whether implanted microchips cause cancer and whether the benefits of microchipping outweigh the risks. To view the documents, visit the AVMA online at www.avma.org, click on Issues, and then Microchip/Electronic ID resources. | ||
