The AVMA will once again hold a State Public Policy Symposium. The Executive Board approved $32,100 in funding for a symposium to be held in Tampa, Fla., in fall 2009 to assist constituent organizations in managing their state and local public policy issues.

The AVMA hosted the symposium in 2004 and 2006 in Chicago. In the background to the recommendation, the State Advocacy Committee noted that the recommendation is consistent with one of the Association's top five strategic planning goals, which states that the "AVMA, through its members and leaders, is committed to be a leading force and advocate on veterinary-related issues in local, state, federal and international legislation and regulation."
