Commissioned Corps promotes veterinary officers

Drs. Tollefson and StokesThe U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps recently promoted two veterinary officers.

Dr. Linda R. Tollefson rose from the rank of rear admiral, lower half, to the rank of rear admiral, upper half. Rear Adm. Tollefson is assistant commissioner for science in the Food and Drug Administration's Office of Science and Health Coordination. She also serves as the FDA coordinator for Commissioned Corps affairs. Previously, she was deputy director of the FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. William S. Stokes rose from the rank of captain to the rank of rear admiral, lower half. Rear Adm. Stokes is director of the National Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods in the National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. He also serves as the chief veterinary officer for the U.S. Public Health Service and is the alternate delegate representing Uniformed Services in the AVMA House of Delegates.
