The Executive Board reaffirmed the AVMA Model Standard Consent Form during its April meeting.

The form was designed to protect veterinarians from liability for intentional acts, such as interference with another's property, which means, in fact, permission to perform operations or other procedures. The form will not protect veterinarians from liability for malpractice.

The Council on Veterinary Service recently conducted a five-year review of the form. The council believes the statement is accurate and current and should be reaffirmed.
