Cartoon characters Pete, the plaque-fighting pooch, and Gigi, the gingivitis-fighting kitty, are once again featured in the dental campaign materials to teach pet owners how to prevent oral disease in their pets.

February is National Pet Dental Health Month and, for the ninth year, the AVMA is co-sponsoring the popular "Pets Need Dental Care, Too" campaign with the American Veterinary Dental Society and Hill's Pet Nutrition.

To help veterinarians educate pet owners on the importance of good oral care for their dogs and cats, the campaign partners have developed a pet dental education kit. Free while supplies last, the kits contain informational brochures on pet dental heath, table tents announcing dental health month, lapel buttons and a window cling featuring the dental campaign logo, and clip art for use in hospital newsletters and community newspapers. To order the kit, call (877) 883-5251.

Pet dental care information can also be accessed and downloaded on the campaign Web site, www.petdental.com.
