Nonmember | Frederick E. Boyer Dr. Boyer (OSU '58), 68, Jackson Center, Ohio, died July 19, 2001. From 1994-1999 he was the health commissioner of Sidney/Shelby County, Ohio. Prior to that, Dr. Boyer owned Tri-County Veterinary Services in Anna, Ohio, for 36 years. He was also a dairy consultant. Dr. Boyer served as an adjunct associate professor at The Ohio State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, teaching dairy production medicine. He was a member of the Ohio VMA, serving as inaugural chair of its Mastitis Committee. Dr. Boyer received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Ohio State's College of Veterinary Medicine. | Henri C. Marsh Dr. Marsh (COR '54), 71, Sarasota, Fla., died Oct. 17, 2001. He was adjunct professor of biology at the New College of the University of South Florida. Prior to that, Dr. Marsh owned Marsh Hospital for Animals, a small animal practice in Verona, N.J., until 1985. During his career, he also taught large animal physical diagnosis and small animal surgical courses and clinics at Texas A&M University. Dr. Marsh was a research member at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, involved with cancer treatment research using shark serum. He also served as executive director of the Gulf Coast Zoological Society Inc. Since 1995, Dr. Marsh was a Guardian Ad Litem, citizens who volunteer to become part of a court program to represent the best interests of an assigned child. He served children in the 12th Judicial Circuit in this capacity. Early this year, he was honored by the Community Foundation of Sarasota County as a recipient of the Unsung Hero Award. Dr. Marsh was a member of the New Jersey VMA. An Air Force veteran, he served as chief surgeon for the Sentry Dog Program. Dr. Marsh's wife, Angela; three sons; and two daughters survive him. |
| Morton Meisels Dr. Meisels (C0OR '41), 86, Newtown, Conn., died Oct. 7, 2001. A small animal practitioner, he founded the Meisels Animal Hospital in Elmwood Park, N.J. Early in his career, Dr. Meisels worked at the Angell Memorial Hospital in Boston. He was a member of the New Jersey VMA, serving on the NJVMA executive board from 1968-1971 and as treasurer for four terms. In 1978, the New Jersey VMA honored Dr. Meisels with the Appreciation and Recognition Award. He was an Army veteran, attaining the rank of captain. Dr. Meisels is survived by his wife, Emmy; a son; a daughter; three stepsons; and a stepdaughter. His nephew, Dr. Lloyd S. Meisels (COR '71), is a veterinarian in Florida. | | Robert F. Willson Dr. Willson (MSU '36), 90, Detroit, died Aug. 2, 2001. From 1969-1975 he was director of the Detroit Zoo. Prior to that, Dr. Willson was in farm animal practice, headed the Food Sanitation Bureau, and served as the chief veterinarian for the Detroit Dog Pound. Although retired since 1975, he remained active with the zoological society until 1987. Dr. Willson was the recipient of the Michigan VMA's Service Award in 1963. |
| Leonard E. Young Dr. Young (AUB '43), 84, White Rock, S.C., died Oct. 19, 2001. Retired in 1986, he owned the River Drive Animal Hospital in Columbia, S.C., for 26 years. Dr. Young was an Army veteran, serving with the 10th infantry division in Italy. He also served in the Korean War. Dr. Young's wife, Doris, and three sons survive him.
