| Paul D. Ahrens Dr. Ahrens (WSU '67), 58, Seattle, died Sept. 16, 2001. He was a partner at Ballard Animal Hospital in Seattle. From 1988–1998 Dr. Ahrens was a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He served on the board of governors for Seattle Lutheran High School for several years. Dr. Ahrens is survived by his wife, Rene; a son; and two daughters. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454. |
| Andrew P. Gray Dr. Gray (KSU '53), 85, Manhattan, Kan., died Oct. 19, 2001. Retired in 1986, he was professor emeritus in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, where he had worked in the diagnostic laboratory and taught pathology. From 1953–1961 Dr. Gray owned a mixed animal practice in Green County, Indiana. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Veterinarians and Kansas VMA. Dr. Gray served as president of the chamber of commerce in Worthington, Ind., from 1959–1961. He was the recipient of a National Defense Education Act Fellowship in 1961, a National Institute of Health Fellowship from 1964–1966, and the first E. R. Frank Veterinary Alumni Award given by Kansas State in 1985. An Army veteran, Dr. Gray served during World War II in Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, and the European theater. He was awarded the American defense service ribbon and a good conduct medal. Dr. Gray's daughter survives him. | William E. Haensly Dr. Haensly (ISU '64), 73, Belingham, Wash., died July 25, 2001. Retired since 1993, he was professor emeritus of veterinary anatomy and public health at Texas A&M University's College of Veterinary Medicine. |

| Lyle A. Hartrick Dr. Hartrick (MSU '50), 82, Royal Oak, Mich., died Aug. 29, 2001. Retired in 1986, he was the founder and owner of the Hartrick Veterinary Clinic in Royal Oak. Dr. Hartrick also bred, owned, and trained Thoroughbreds. He was a life member of the Michigan VMA. Dr. Hartrick's wife, Mary Anne, survives him. |
| Arthur J. McIntosh Dr. McIntosh (ISU '44), 80, Sun City West, Ariz., died Aug. 26, 2001. Retired, he had worked for the Iowa Department of Agriculture as a district veterinarian from 1972–1982. Prior to that, Dr. McIntosh had a mixed practice in LaPorte City, Ind., for 27 years. He was a life member of the Iowa VMA. Dr. McIntosh served in the Army Veterinary Corps, attaining the rank of captain. His wife, Elizabeth; a daughter; and two sons survive him. |
| James A. Shirey Dr. Shirey (COL '75), 52, Thornton, Colo., died Sept. 30, 2001. At the time of his death, he was a science teacher at Thornton High School. From 1976–1993 Dr. Shirey practiced small animal medicine. He also consulted for the AAHA. Dr. Shirey had been active in the California VMA House of Delegates, where he served as chairman from 1980–1982. He was also a member of the Colorado VMA. Dr. Shirey's wife, Karen, survives him. His brother, Dr. William J. Shirey (COL '68), practices in San Jose, Calif. |
