ASPCA president, CEO loses sister Sept. 11

Besides the three family members of veterinarians JAVMA previously reported as victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack, Dr. Larry Hawk of New York City lost his sister, a flight attendant on American Airlines flight 11, the first airliner to hit the World Trade Center.

Dr. Hawk is president and CEO of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. His sister, Kathy Nicosia, 54, Winthrop, Mass., worked for the airline 32 years. Her other survivors include her husband and daughter. Dr. Hawk said she had a positive outlook on life and was always there to help others.
