The AVMA will partner with the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians and the American College of Zoological Medicine to produce the 2002 AVMA Animal Welfare Forum.

The Animal Welfare Committee believes the benefits of presenting the forum in conjunction with related organizations is threefold: helps committee members identify emerging welfare issues within the area of focus; assists with selection and procurement of appropriate speakers; and promotes attendance.

A primary objective of the AVMA's new Long-Range Plan is developing and enhancing alliances with groups inside and outside the Association to advance the profession. Producing the annual Animal Welfare Forum with appropriate groups meets this objective.

Members of the committee believe such partnerships will be valuable as the AVMA attempts to provide science- and data-based information on subjects with a high emotional component to a wider audience.
