Nominations are invited for 16 AVMA council vacancies, 23 committee seats, and three openings on trusts (see chart). Three of the council openings and four committee vacancies are new since the call for nominations was published in the Oct 1, 2000 JAVMA. The Council on Public Health and Regulatory Veterinary Medicine has an unexpired term ending in July 2003 representing "agricultural agencies." On the same council, a vacancy exists for an unexpired term ending in July 2002 representing "public health agencies or the armed forces." (A full, six-year term in that same category was announced previously and also must be filled.) An open seat on the Council on Education, expiring in July 2002, exists for "private small animal clinical practice." The Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates has a six-year term available for a "veterinarian who is a member of a state licensing board." Three three-year terms are open on the Member Services Committee representing "private clinical practice," "academic veterinary medicine," and "recent graduates" (within seven years). Council nominations must be postmarked no later than Feb 1. Committee and trust nominations must be postmarked by March 6, and so must nominations to the House Advisory Committee for the AVMA Political Action Committee Advisory Board seat. Information on the process and nomination forms can be obtained by calling AVMA headquarters at (800) 248-2862, ext 221.
