To ensure that the AVMA Animal Welfare Forum continues beyond 2001, the Executive Board approved a recommendation from the Animal Welfare Committee to fund it annually at $50,000.

The committee will continue to choose the topics and speakers.

Costs for 2000 and 2001 are already in the budget. For 2000 and 2001, it is anticipated that the $50,000 will be offset by $25,000 in income, including registrations and sponsorships.

Since 1989 the cost of presenting the forum has increased. The AVMA does not wish to raise registration fees, and procurement of adequate sponsorship has become more difficult because of competition from other AVMA projects and a tightening of corporate belts.

The 2000 forum will be devoted to bovine welfare and will be held Nov 10 in Itasca, Ill, near AVMA headquarters. In 2001 the forum topic will be pain management.
