Elvin T. Brown

Dr. Brown (WSU '76), 59, Grants, NM, died March 7, 2000. A member of the Western Veterinary Conference, he owned City and Country Veterinary Clinic, a mixed practice in Milan, NM, for 23 years.

 
Clifford J. Callahan

Dr. Callahan (OSU '59), 66, West Lafayette, Ind, died Jan 29, 2000. In 1998 he became professor emeritus of veterinary clinical sciences at the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, where he taught for 39 years. Dr. Callahan was a member of the Indiana VMA, Society for Theriogenology, American College of Theriogenologists (charter diplomate), AABP, and the American Association of Veterinary Clinicians.

His career at Purdue brought him several commendations, including Outstanding Teacher in Veterinary Medicine (1969), Outstanding Clinician (1969), Faculty Award for Excellence in Service (1994), and Alumni Faculty Award for Excellence (1998). Dr. Callahan was also made an honorary lifetime member of the Indiana Holstein Association, in 1989. Dr. Memorials may be made to the C. Robert S. Carkeek

Dr. Carkeek (WSU '59), 69, Bellevue, Wash, died Feb 27, 2000. He was retired from a small animal practice in Bellevue. His brother, Dr. Jack Carkeek (WSU '58), continues to work in the Bellevue practice.

 
Clarence E. Chrisp

Dr. Chrisp (CAL '67), 65, Ann Arbor, Mich, died Feb 8, 2000. He was a professor of comparative pathology at the Unit for Laboratory Animal Medicine, Animal Research Facility, University of Michigan. Dr. Chrisp joined the University of Michigan in 1967 as an instructor in the ULAM, but left in 1969 to head the University of California-Davis radiology laboratory's clinical medicine division. From 1980-1982, he worked for Batelle Memorial Institute in Columbus, Ohio as a pathologist. He returned to the University of Michigan in 1982 as an associate professor of comparative pathology to direct the diagnostic laboratory at the ULAM. Dr. Chrisp made contributions as a pathologist through studies on cancer and aging in laboratory rodents, and to knowledge of the pathobiology of genetically modified mice. He was a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. John D. Denman

Dr. Denman (TEX '63), 61, Mount Pleasant, Texas, died Feb 15, 2000. A large animal practitioner, Dr. Denman was a member and former director of the Texas VMA and the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice, and was recognized for 25 years of service with the latter organization. Dr. Denman was also a rancher and was given the Texas Farm Bureau Pioneer Award in 1997. He served as president of the Titus Farm Bureau Board of Directors for 15 years. Dr. Evans (COL '59), 71, Golden, Colo, died Jan 23, 2000. He owned a small animal practice.

 
Jack W. Finger

Dr. Finger (COL '54), 71, Melbourne, Fla, died Jan 21, 2000. He was retired from South Patrick Animal Hospital, a small animal practice in Indian Harbor Beach, Fla. Dr. Finger was a member of the Florida VMA and AAHA. His brother-in-law, Dr. William B. Harbert (COL '60), Spokane, Wash, is a retired practitioner. Dr. Finger served as a captain in the Air Force. Joseph J. Funderburk

Dr. Funderburk (AUB '64), 64, West Monroe, La, died March 4, 2000. He owned a small animal practice.

 
Michael L. Gambiani

Dr. Gambiani (KSU '69), 54, Spring Valley, Ill, died March 4, 2000. He owned Valley View Veterinary Clinic, a mixed practice in Spring Valley, for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the Bureau County Farm Bureau. Dr. Gambiani served as a captain in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

 
William H. Lindley

Dr. Lindley (KSU '33), 88, Vicksburg, Miss, died Feb 20, 2000. He was in practice for 67 years, more than 53 spent in Vicksburg. He began his practice in 1945, after serving in the Army Veterinary Corps during World War II. A member of the Mississippi VMA, Dr. Lindley served in all of its offices, including chairman of the Continuing Education Committee. He was named its Veterinarian of the Year twice, first in 1970 and again in 1982.

A prolific writer, Dr. Lindley published "A History of Veterinary Medicine in Mississippi" in 1973. He also served on the Advisory Board to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University. He also received the Veterinary Medical Hall of Fame Award in Mississippi in 1993. In 1999, Dr. Lindley opened the Great Animal Adventures Children's Museum in Vicksburg after years of collecting many veterinary artifacts and materials. Douglas H. McKelvie

Dr. McKelvie (COL '52), 72, Tucson, Ariz, died March 14, 2000. He practiced in a small animal hospital from 1952-1960 in Salt Lake City. After completing his PhD degree in 1968 in comparative pathology, McKelvie taught veterinary medicine at Colorado State University from 1968-1974. For the next 15 years Dr. McKelvie was director of animal care and associate professor of pathology at Arizona College of Medicine, and in 1989 he retired. Dr. McKelvie served as a delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates for five years. He was also a diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. Dr. McKelvie was a past president of the American Society of Laboratory Animal Practitioners, and a member of the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, American Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathologists, California VMA, Utah VMA, Colorado VMA, and Arizona VMA.

Dr. Sweeny (COL '74), 51, Golden, Colo, died Feb 19, 2000. He owned a small animal practice.

 
Eric P. Tulleners

Dr. Tulleners (CAL '78), 47, Kennett Square, Pa, died Jan 16, 2000. In 1994, he was named the Lawrence Baker Sheppard Associate Professor of Equine Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1999, he was made a regent of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. In 1991, while associate professor of surgery at the University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center, Dr. Tulleners was featured in the JAVMA News for his work on soft-tissue laser surgery in the upper airway of the horse (Jan 15, 1991, pages 195-202).

Dr. Uno (CAL '66), 59, Lancaster, Calif, died Nov 28, 1999. He owned a small animal practice.

 
Robert G. Williams

Dr. Williams (GA '54), 75, Tampa, Fla, died March 5, 2000. He owned Wellswood Animal Clinic Inc, in Tampa. Dr. Williams was a life member of the Florida VMA and the Hillshire County Medical Society. David L. Wood

Dr. Wood (AUB '72), 54, Niceville, Fla, died Feb 21, 2000. He worked in a mixed practice.
