Virginia-Maryland bolsters public practice programs

The Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in March announced the hiring of three veterinarians to new positions as part of an intensified effort by the college to provide national leadership for public practice initiatives in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Windy L. Fineblum is coordinator of the Food Safety Risk Analysis Clearinghouse for the Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition. Dr. Fineblum works with the FDA and leaders of the public and private sector to minimize food safety and environmental toxicology risks by developing risk assessment, risk management, and risk communication programs.

Dr. Ted Y. Mashima is an associate director of the college's Center for Government and Corporate Veterinary Medicine. He coordinates educational clerkships for veterinary students at zoological parks, aquariums, wildlife agencies, and other conservation and environmental organizations.

Dr. Bettye K. Walters is an associate director of the Center for Government and Corporate Veterinary Medicine, where her primary areas of responsibility include developing programs directed at postgraduate veterinarians in government and corporate veterinary medicine.
