In Memoriam

Dr. Altmyer (AUB '47), 75, Laurel, Miss, died Nov 20, 1999. He retired from his small animal practice in Laurel after a 50-year career. Dr. Altmyer was a member of the Mississippi VMA. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Campbell (MSU '31), 89, Lakeland, Fla, died Sept 8, 1999. He was a retired practitioner.

Dr. Flora (PUR '63), 74, Monticello, Ind, died Oct 27, 1999. He owned a mixed, primarily swine practice in Francesville, Ind, and retired in 1991. Dr. Flora was a member of the Indiana VMA and the AASP.

The son of the late Dr. Walter G. Flora, he has two brothers who are retired practitioners and AVMA honor roll members: Dr. David L. Flora (OSU '47), Chalmers, Ind and Dr. Phillip Flora (MSU '58), Monticello, Ind. Dr. Flora served as an Air Force cadet during World War II. Dr. Hall (VMR '90), 45, Centreville, Va, died Dec 24, 1999. She practiced at Centreville Animal Hospital and was president of the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Northern Virginia in Vienna, Va, and a member of the DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine, the Northern Virginia VMA, the Virginia VMA, and the AAHA. She was appointed to the Advisory Board of Fairfax County Animal Shelter.

Dr. Hall's interest in breeding and showing dogs for conformation, and in obedience and agility trials began when she was in high. Her dogs have been shown throughout the northeastern United States, including the Westminster Kennel Club show in New York, as well as in the United Kingdom. Dr. Hall was a member of the American Kennel Club, and was a founding member and past president of the Blue Ridge Bull Terrier Club. She was active in the rescue and welfare of hundreds of homeless dogs and cats, and was a member of the Bull Terrier Welfare Foundation, a nationwide organization.

Dr. Hamann (MSU '65), 68, Cadillac, Mich, died Nov 23, 1999. He practiced for two years in Charlotte, Mich, before moving to Cadillac where in 1968, he founded the Airport Animal Clinic, PC, a mixed practice, and in 1986, the Lake City Animal Clinic. He was a member of the Michigan VMA and Northern Michigan VMA. Dr. Hamann served in the Air Force in the late 1950s. Dr. Howarth (COL '42), 87, Englewood, Colo, died Dec 11, 1999. He owned a small animal practice in Littleton, Colo. A long-time AAHA member, Dr. Howarth served on several committees and was president of the association in the late 1950s. As a member of the AAHA policy and planning committee, he was instrumental in developing the affiliate membership classification and was program chairman for the AAHA 1965 meeting in Washington. He received the first AAHA Charles E. Bild Practitioner of the Year Award in 1975.

A member of the Colorado VMA and former president of the Denver VMA, Dr. Howarth was honored with the Colorado Veterinarian of the Year Award in 1967, for efforts in education and practice of veterinary medicine that placed him among the top of the field. He was nationally recognized for his special knowledge and ability in clinical laboratory medicine.

Dr. Hughes (OKL '75), 49, Wagoner, Okla, died Nov 4, 1999. He owned Hughes Animal Clinic, a mixed practice in Wagoner.

Dr. Ingmand (ISU '34), 89, Sun City, Ariz, died Oct 22, 1999. He formerly owned Ingmand Small Animal Hospital. Upon graduation he joined his father, Dr. Joseph P. Ingmand, at his practice in Red Oak. Dr. Ingmand manufactured and marketed high-protein dog food. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army Veterinary Corps. Dr. Jacox (OKL '87), 39, Tulsa, Okla, died Sept 22, 1999. He owned a small animal practice in Tulsa.

Dr. Keppel (COL '80), 47, Tucson, Ariz, died Dec 20, 1999. She practiced in Boston and Springfield, Mass, before moving to Tucson, where she operated a clinic from 1985-1995. Dr. Keppel became one of the first practitioners certified by Tucson's Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy. In 1997 she opened the Arroyo Verde Animal Clinic in Tucson, which offered traditional and homeopathic treatments. When Dr. Keppel outgrew that practice, she moved into a large warehouse in Tucson and fulfilled a longtime aspiration to operate a clinic that also served as an animal sanctuary. She was a member of the Tucson VMA and Arizona VMA. Dr. Keppel also distinguished herself in Arizona for her athletic abilities, having won state competitions as a runner, cyclist, and triathlete.

Dr. Kinard (KSU '47), 74, Bamberg, SC, died Nov 8, 1999. He owned a mixed practice in Bamberg. In 1996, his grandson, Dr. James Mitchell (TUS '96), assumed the practice. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, PO Box 335, Bamberg, SC 29003.

Dr. Minor (AUB '51), 78, Clanton, Ala, died Oct 20, 1999. He was retired from a mixed practice.

Dr. Mueller (IL '74), 49, Williamsfield, Ill, died Sept 30, 1999. He owned a mixed practice in Williamsfield from 1974-1999. Dr. Mueller was a member of the Illinois State VMA. Memorial contributions may be made to Williamsfield United Methodist Church, PO Box 387, Williamsfield, IL 61489.

Dr. Rodabaugh (KSU '38), 94, Kirksville, Mo, died Nov 22, 1999. After graduation he moved to Kirksville, where he practiced until 1974, with the exception of four years as assistant state veterinarian in Jefferson City, Mo. Dr. Rodabaugh was a member of the Missouri VMA, served as president in 1951, and, in 1975, received recognition from the association for his exceptional service to veterinary medicine.
