Michael A. Bricker
Dr. Bricker (OSU '76), 48, New Philadelphia, Ohio, died Oct 9, 1999. He practiced small animal and equine medicine at Valley View Animal Clinic, which he founded in 1984, where. Dr. Bricker was a member of the AAEP and the Ohio VMA. His cousin, Dr. Sally Sifferlin (OSU '89), is a practitioner in Dover, Ohio. John A. Bush
Dr. Bush (ISU '54), 68, Flora, Ind, died Nov 6, 1999. He began his practice in Flora in 1954 and was joined by his son, Dr. Randy Bush (PUR '85) in 1990. During his 45 years in practice, Dr. Bush was instrumental in the eradication of hog cholera in the late 1960s. He diagnosed pseudorabies in Carroll County, Indiana in 1956 and was nationally known for his field research of the disease. In 1944 he was inducted in the Carroll County Agriculture Hall of Fame. Dr. Bush was a member of the Indiana VMA, the West Central Indiana VMA, and the AASP. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. John A. Leta E. Cates
Dr. Cates (KSU '86), 42, Ramer, Ala, died Oct 17, 1999. She worked at the Vaughan Road Veterinary Clinic, a small animal practice in Montgomery, Ala. From 1987-1992 she was in the Army Veterinary Corps and attained the rank of major. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Royce L. McMahen
Dr. McMahen (AUB '52), 76, Springhill, La, died Nov 13, 1999. He opened McMahen Veterinary Hospital in Springhill in 1954. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corps. His son, Dr. Royce W. McMahen, is a practitioner in Springhill. John F. Miskowiec
Dr. Miskowiec (MIN '72), 51, Minneapolis, died Oct 29, 1999. After graduation he practiced for a time in Pensacola, Fla. For the remainder of his career, he owned Beltline Pet Hospital Ltd, a small animal practice in Minneapolis. Thomas A. Rawls Sr
Dr. Rawls (TEX '44), 77, Slidell, La, died Nov 1, 1999. He owned Broadmoor Animal Hospital in New Orleans and practiced there for more than 50 years before retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Southeast Louisiana VMA. Dr. Rawls served as a captain in the Air Force. Memorial contributions may be made to Slidell Memorial Hospice, 1045 Florida Ave, Slidell, LA 70458.

Jerry L. Rountree
Dr. Rountree (MSU '52), 70, East Waterboro, Maine, died Nov 3, 1999. From 1952-1955 he was an associate professor at the University of Maine, Orono. Dr. Rountree dedicated most of his career to poultry health and management, stressing immunology. In 1958 he became vice president in charge of research for Lipman Poultry Company of Augusta, Maine. From 1978-1994 Dr. Rountree was a private consultant working for various poultry companies around the world. He was a member of the American Association of Avian Pathologists and the Maine VMA.

Euclid C. "Buck" Sharman
Dr. Sharman (AUB '53), 70, Albany, Ga, died Oct 22, 1999. He retired from USDA-APHIS Veterinary Services in 1987 after a distinguished, 37-year career. He was assistant deputy administrator for Veterinary Services emergency and field programs at the time of his retirement.

Much of Dr. Sharman's career was dedicated to disease eradication efforts worldwide. He served as a veterinary livestock inspector and an area supervisor in the final stages of the seven-year effort to rid Mexico of foot-and-mouth disease. From 1954-1958, he went on active duty with the Air Force, including an assignment in Morocco, where he was in charge of food sanitation and rabies prevention efforts. In the 1960s he was chief staff veterinarian of the USDA Emergency Diseases staff and was detailed to Great Britain to lead 11 other US veterinarians in helping eradicate the worst foot-and-mouth disease outbreak that nation had experienced.

Dr. Sharman helped develop guidelines for US emergency eradication procedures to be used in the event of an outbreak of a foreign animal disease, and emergency procedures for the national hog cholera eradication program. He was named chief of technical support for Veterinary Services emergency programs in the newly organized APHIS, then directed the task force for the 1972-1974 exotic Newcastle eradication campaign in Southern California. Other positions Dr. Sharman held in APHIS included head of the Veterinary Services Import and Export staff.

He was a member of the Georgia VMA, US Animal Health Association, and National Association of Federal Veterinarians. His brother, Dr. J. Harold Sharman, is an AVMA honor roll member in Albany, Ga. Royce W. Smith
Dr. Smith (OSU '54), 69, Jeromesville, Ohio, died Sept 13, 1999. He was retired from Spring Meadow Veterinary Clinic, a small animal practice in Ashton, Ohio. Dr. Smith was a member of the Ohio VMA and served on its board. He was also on the admissions board of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Smith served as a captain in the Air Force. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Animal Health Foundation, 3168 Riverside Drive, Columbus, OH 43221.

Howard T. Weir
Dr. Weir (AUB '43), 79, Mountain Brook, Ala, died Nov 20, 1999. He owned a small animal practice and was past president of the Alabama VMA. Dr. Weir was a World War II veteran. Memorial contributions may be made to the Birmingham Humane Society, 1713 Lomb Ave, Birmingham, AL 35208.
