Scholarships and other opportunities

AVMA invests in the future of the AVMA. Read on for ways you can attend the VLC at reduced costs.

Veterinary leaders

AVMA member veterinarians interested in developing their leadership skills are encouraged to attend. The AVMA will reimburse airfare/mileage and up to three nights hotel room and tax for one leader selected by each state veterinary medical association (VMA) and allied constituent organization in the HOD. Check with your state VMA or allied constituent organization for information on how to be selected. Registration fees are not reimbursed by the AVMA.

State VMA and constituent allied organization executive representatives

Representatives from each association represented in the AVMA HOD who are interested in developing their leadership skills. Associations are encouraged to send their executive director, public relations representative, president, president-elect, or other staff/volunteer member of the state VMA or constituent allied organization. AVMA will pay half of the travel for two representatives from each association in the HOD. Registration fees are not reimbursed by the AVMA.

Students

Students that are SAVMA members who are interested in developing their leadership skills are encouraged to attend. The AVMA will reimburse airfare/mileage and up to three nights shared hotel room and tax for one student from each of the veterinary colleges represented in the SAVMA House of Delegates. Registration fees are not reimbursed by the AVMA. Selection of the student from each veterinary college will be through an application process administered by the SAVMA Executive Board. Scholarships

Scholarships for rising leaders
The AVMA is offering $1,000 scholarships for 12 AVMA members to develop their leadership potential at the 2022 Veterinary Leadership Conference (VLC). To qualify for the scholarships, applicants must have graduated within the last five years and fall into at least one of the following categories:

  • Rising Leaders – Attendees with a desire to serve as a volunteer leader with little or no prior leadership experience
  • Under-represented in veterinary leadership – Veterinarians from a demographic, geographic, or socioeconomic group or practice type that is under-represented in U.S. veterinary leadership
