2017 CE highlights

Practice Profitability

AVMA's Practice Profitability Program is a series of interactive, experiential learning sessions especially geared toward veterinary practice owners and practice managers. The practice profitability curriculum includes a variety of Practice Profitability Core sessions in two designated levels: Level 1 and Level 2. Level 1 sessions are a great opportunity to learn about basic financial and economic principles, strategies for building client relationships and improving staff functions, and workplace operations that support successful practice management. Level 2 sessions provide an advanced learning experience that builds on the Level 1 program. It is recommended that attendees have previously completed the Level 1 curriculum and/or are comfortable with Level 1 subject matter. This curriculum is heavily based on strategies and implementation, including hands-on exercises and specific methods to achieve your goals for your practice.

Honeybee Health and Husbandry

Under the new FDA regulations related to medically-important antibiotics, honeybees are considered food animals. That means honeybee producers will need to establish a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship in order to obtain antibiotics for use in feed or by soluble administration, just like other food animal producers. In turn, that requires veterinarians to be knowledgeable about honeybees before giving prescribing them antibiotics or writing Veterinary Feed Directives (VFDs). At AVMA Convention 2017, you have the opportunity to attend a series will provide you with the essentials for basic beekeeping, inspection and proper care.

Urban Farming

Need to learn or refresh your knowledge on topics associated with livestock that produce meat, milk, fiber, eggs, or honey for human use? If so, then attend one of the sessions offered in AVMA's Urban Farming track. At the 2017 AVMA Convention, you'll have the opportunity to attend sessions specifically designed to address environmental and governmental regulatory requirements for livestock raised in urban and suburban areas, identify resources available for follow-up associated with livestock in urban environments, and how to address economic and logistical viability of adding livestock veterinary services to an urban veterinary practice.

Hands-on Education

The AVMA offers a variety of hands-on education opportunities to help you gain skills in performing procedures, determining diagnostic examinations, or learning new behavioral or rehabilitation techniques using models, live animals or cadavers. These interactive labs and workshops cover a variety of topics, from dental demonstrations to fecal labs—learn veterinary techniques from end to end!
