Fees and costs


Applicants will need to submit payment when completing the online application.

Fees

Candidate registration fees go towards offering, maintaining, and running the ECFVG® program. Quality assurance program (QAP) funds are spent on developing and refining the exams and maintaining exam security. Other than the administrative fee, the entire CPE application fee goes to the CPE site at which the candidate is being examined.

Application

Application total: $1,400.00 USD

  • $675 – ECFVG program application fee
  • $725 – ECFVG quality assurance program (QAP) fee
English language ability assessment

Test registration fees vary depending on testing service and location. Learn more about accepted English language assessments.

Basic and clinical sciences examination (BCSE)

BCSE total*: $220.00 USD

  • $220 – BCSE application fee

*If the BCSE is taken outside the U.S. or Canada, an additional scheduling fee applies that varies based on location.

Clinical proficiency exam (CPE)

CPE total: $7,630.00 USD

  • $200 – Administrative fee**
  • $7,430 – CPE fee** (may be paid in two installments)

**CPE fees may be paid in two installments: a first installment of $1,000, and a second installment of $6,630. The second installment may only be paid by cashier's check or money order made payable to the AVMA.

Payment methods

Credit card

Credit card payment information is collected during the online application process. Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express credit cards are accepted.

Credit card payments are not processed until the notarized ECFVG application form is approved by the ECFVG. Any credit card authorization more than 30 days old will be canceled by the ECFVG, at which time the applicant will be instructed how to resubmit the payment authorization to continue the application process.

Other methods

Payment can also be submitted to the ECFVG office as a personal check from a U.S. bank only, or by cashier's check or money order made payable to the AVMA with the applicant’s ECFVG ID number included for identification purposes.

The second of the CPE payments can only be paid by cashier's check or money order made payable to the AVMA.

Refunds

The $675.00 ECFVG program application fee is nonrefundable. However, if a candidate wishes to withdraw from the ECFVG certification program within 60 days after initially applying, the $725.00 ECFVG quality assurance program (QAP) fee will be refunded upon request to the ECFVG office. Requests must be done through the online candidate portal or by written request. No fees will be refunded for withdrawal requests received more than 60 days after initial application.

All fees for the CPE are nonrefundable and non-transferable.

Reregistration

The original registration fee is valid for two years. To remain active in the program, candidates must reregister every two years by notifying the ECFVG and paying a $120.00 reregistration fee. Learn more about reregistration.
