AVMF, Merck pledge $200,000 for Ukraine relief

The people and animals of Ukraine need our help – and our veterinary community is responding.

AVMA’s charitable arm, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF), is directing a $100,000 donation from Merck Animal Health to support veterinary and animal welfare groups providing relief – and matching it with an additional $100,000.

If you would like to contribute to these efforts as well, you can do so through the AVMF at avmf.org/Donate.

All donations will provide food, medical care, disaster relief, and emergency support to protect animal welfare and care providers in the affected areas – 100% of donations will be used to help those in need.

Together we can make a difference

Across the veterinary community, we’ve seen an outpouring of concern since the start of the Russian invasion. Many of our colleagues have contacted the AVMA and AVMF asking how to help. The AVMF is proud to lead the U.S. veterinary community’s response.

“People and animals alike desperately need help,” said Dr. Douglas Kratt, AVMF chairman. “We are very grateful to Merck Animal Health for its generosity.”

AVMA’s president, Dr. José Arce, urged others who can afford a donation to join in the veterinary community’s response. “Many organizations, including veterinary medical facilities, animal shelters, and animal rescue groups in Ukraine and neighboring countries, are courageously providing care to people and animals affected by the crisis,” he said. “But they can’t do it alone.”

“Together, we can make a difference and support people, animals and those who care for them,” Dr. Arce said.

RE: UKRAINE

Thank you for reaching out. At this point, the best way to help is through financial support. We're encouraging our members and the general public to consider contributing to relief efforts by donating to the AVMF. One hundred percent of the donations will be used to help those in need and animal care.

temporary housing for veterinary refugees

I have 3 spare bedrooms and would be willing to host (veterinary) refugees

Ukraine: Housing/Employment

I have spare bedrooms where I can host an individual or family and our hospital as well as many others in the area are in need of employees once their work documents would be completed. How can I go about reaching out to let anyone who may be interested (and have travel documents to come to the US) know of the availability?
