Here’s what veterinary professionals should know

The wide-ranging legislative package passed by Congress and signed into law this month includes extensive changes to federal student loan programs, which will affect current and future veterinary borrowers. A new AVMA webpage summarizes the key changes.

Student Loan Changes: What You Need to Know details these and other important updates:

  • New limits on unsubsidized federal loans
  • Changes to income-driven repayment plans
  • Phase-out of Grad PLUS and limits on Parent PLUS loans
  • Continuation of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program

The AVMA also is working on additional resources that will help veterinary borrowers understand the available student loan programs and repayment options.

Alleviating student debt: An AVMA priority

Finding creative solutions to reduce veterinary debt is a top priority for the AVMA. Both independently and in concert with other groups across the profession, the AVMA develops tools and advances public policies that help address veterinary debt.
