Stories from your peers: Over 20,000 clicks and counting

Published on September 26, 2019

Thank you, veterinary podcast fans! With last week's episode, the AVMA's My Veterinary Life podcast achieved its 20,000 download---a milestone we could hardly have imagined when we started the series early this year.

That means that these stories about the varied lives and career paths of our member veterinarians have been heard more than 20,000 times (20,518 to be exact). With 45 episodes broadcast, that’s an average of 457 listeners for each story.

Wow. In addition to thanking the listening community that has joined us so far, we also want to say how grateful we are to the guest veterinarians who have given so generously to share their stories and inspire us all. They’ve made us laugh, motivated us to keep growing and learning, and helped remind us all what brings us together as a supportive and caring veterinary community.

The series is hosted by two early-career veterinarians who work for the AVMA and is made possible through educational support from Hill’s Pet Nutrition, so please join us in thanking them as well.

What's the podcast series about?

The weekly podcasts share inspiring – and often hilarious - stories from guest veterinarians about the journeys that have brought them to where they are in their careers and lives. Listeners come away with a fresh look at our veterinary community and renewed enthusiasm for our veterinary journeys.

If you haven’t yet listened in, here’s an example of what you’ve been missing: Next week’s episode will feature Dr. Brad Ryan, who has gained national attention recently because he’s on a quest to visit all of the United States’ national parks with his 89-year-old Grandma Joy.

Here are some of the past episodes that have proven most popular:

  • Welcome to My Veterinary Life: Drs. Marci Kirk and Anna Reddish (February 7, 2019)
  • Parasites, Veterinary Education and Collaboration: Dr. Dave Granstrom (August 29, 2019)
  • Research, Crossroads and Seizing Opportunities: Dr. Farrah Monibi (August 15, 2019)
  • Wildlife, Industry, and Synchronized Swimming: Dr. Karen Shenoy (September 5, 2019)
  • Pigs, Changes and Giving Back: Dr. Jen Stevens (August 22, 2019)

You can find them all at and subscribe to the My Veterinary Life series through Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, or Spreaker.

Special thanks to Hill’s Pet Nutrition for its support of the My Veterinary Life podcast weekly series.
