Steve Dale has been chosen as the first recipient of a new AVMA award honoring media excellence for his reporting on veterinary medicine and the veterinary profession.
The inaugural AVMA Excellence in Media Award will be presented to Dale this summer at the AVMA's annual convention in San Diego.
This new AVMA Excellence Award was created to honor those who contribute to the positive visibility of the veterinary profession by raising public awareness of the important and diverse roles veterinarians play in the health and welfare of animals, people and the environment.
Dale is a certified animal behavior consultant and host of two nationally syndicated radio shows: Steve Dale’s Pet World and The Pet Minute. He also is a special contributor at Chicago’s WGN Radio and program host of Steve Dale’s Pet World.
Dale also has been involved in many legislative efforts, from preventing breed bans to protecting animals from kennel fires. He played a key role in the creation of Illinois’ first fire protection law for pets in kennels, which was signed by Illinois’ governor in August.
“For more than 30 years, Steve has been a champion of veterinary medicine and the animals we treat,” said AVMA President Dr. John Howe. “Steve’s rapport with the public has helped build awareness of animal health and wellbeing as well as the veterinarian’s role in animal care.”
The award is sponsored by Fear Free Pets, whose mission is to prevent and alleviate fear, anxiety, and stress in pets by inspiring and educating the people who care for them. Learn more about Dale’s background and many achievements in the press release announcing his selection.
AVMA awards are powered by you; nominate a colleague
