2016-Conv-Connections-CE-Networking-300x300We love meeting and talking with our members one on one, and AVMA Convention is a great place to catch up. If you’re joining us in San Antonio for this year’s convention starting this Friday (Aug. 5-9), we hope you’ll make a point of seeking us out to share your concerns and interests.

The easiest place to find us will be the AVMA Pavilion, booth #441 in the center of the Exhibit Hall. We’ll have staff in the Pavilion at all times during Exhibit Hall hours, and would love the opportunity to chat with you. We share your passion for veterinary medicine, and want to hear your ideas and talk about the issues that concern you. The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF), AVMA PLIT and AVMA LIFE also will be represented in the Pavilion, so you can connect with the entire AVMA family in one location. AVMA PLIT and AVMA LIFE also will have separate booths nearby: AVMA PLIT in booth #429 and AVMA LIFE in booth #425.

We’ll also be presenting a wide range of interesting programs in the AVMA Pavilion, on topics ranging from career resources to practice economics, wellness and veterinary leadership development. In one of the programs, the 2015-16 AVMA Future Leaders will discuss the work they did to enhance AVMA’s online workplace wellness resources at a news conference that will also feature the unveiling of the young veterinarians chosen to participate in the 2016-17 Future Leaders program. Stop by the Pavilion to check out the full presentation schedule so you can plan to attend the sessions that most interest you.

AVMA volunteer leaders and staff also will present numerous CE sessions on a variety of subjects, including practice management and practice profitability, student debt and other economic issues, job seeking and hiring, and animal welfare. Additionally, our Student Initiatives Team will be working closely with SAVMA students during their leadership meeting, held in conjunction with AVMA Convention.

Education: Catch up with AVMA COE

For those interested in veterinary education and accreditation issues, members of the AVMA Council on Education will provide a brief update on COE activity and hold a listening session on Sunday, Aug. 7, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Crockett CD at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio.

Partners for Healthy Pets

If you’re looking to meet up with Partners for Healthy Pets, you can catch their Beyond the Basics course “Attracting and Retaining Clients” on Sunday, Aug. 7, from 2 p.m. to 5:50 p.m. in room #007 on the River Level of the convention center.  For more information about Partners for Healthy Pets, talk with staff in the AVMA Pavilion or the AAHA booth (#334).

Join Us on Social Media

We’ll be using the hashtag #avmaconv and encourage attendees to tag their tweets, posts, and photos with the hashtag. Here’s where to find us on social media:

AVMA Convention is always an exciting time for AVMA’s volunteer leaders and staff – most of all because it brings our profession together for both learning and building connections. We’re looking forward to meeting up with you in San Antonio, and talking about your ideas for promoting, advancing and protecting veterinary medicine.
