GlobalAffairs-Blog-HeroDo you love to travel? Are you interested in trying a different kind of veterinary CE? If so, consider joining members of the AVMA’s Committee on International Veterinary Affairs (CIVA) and your AVMA officers at an international veterinary conference in 2018!

Early registration deadlines are approaching in January for two international meetings at which CIVA members and AVMA officers will participate, and they would love to get to know fellow U.S. veterinarians who will be attending, and listen to your concerns and ideas.  We will be arranging several social functions during each conference, ranging from group dinners to local excursions and casual meet-and-greets. Please contact the designated AVMA hosts listed below or esabinatavma [dot] org (subject: International%20Congresses%202018) (Dr. Beth Sabin, AVMA director of global outreach), to receive updates on AVMA events planned at these conferences.

Because the AVMA is a member of both of these international associations, AVMA members qualify for discounted member registrations rates at both events.

First up is the 34th World Veterinary Association Congress in Barcelona, Spain, from May 5-8, 2018. The conference program has three tracks: academic, public veterinary health, and clinical practice addressing both small and large animal medicine as well as non-clinical areas. Social events during the Congress will include a Barcelona city tour, Mediterranean sailing trip, and a flamenco show. Details of AVMA events are still being put together, but Dr. Cassandra Tansey, the U.S./North American councillor to the World Veterinary Association, will be one of your AVMA hosts and can be cassandra [dot] tanseyatgmail [dot] com (subject: WVA%20Conference) (contacted by email). Early registration ends on Jan. 31, 2018, with regular registration extending through March 23 and late registration available thereafter and on-site.

The 43rd World Small Animal Veterinary Association Congress will be held later in the year in Singapore—from Sept. 25-28, 2018—in conjunction with the Federation of Asian Small Animal Veterinary Associations Congress. Super early bird registration ends on Jan. 15, 2018, with early bird registration continuing through June 25, and late registration thereafter. The conference program offers 10 concurrent sessions per day, all focusing on small animal medicine. The new AVMA liaison to the WSAVA for the term beginning in July 2018 will be elected by the AVMA Board of Directors in spring 2018, so we do not yet know who your host at this meeting will be. In the meantime, if you plan to attend the WSAVA Congress and would like to meet up with your AVMA representatives, please esabinatavma [dot] org (subject: WSAVA%20Congress%202018) (email Dr. Beth Sabin,) and she will be sure to keep you up to date.

The AVMA looks forward to sharing the WVA and WSAVA with you in Barcelona or Singapore in 2018.
