Each year, AVMA’s president gives Santa’s reindeer the “all-clear” after a veterinary inspection of each one. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, and the rest received their clean bill of health this week from AVMA President Dr. John Howe, and they’re ready to help Santa deliver presents around the world.
While only one veterinarian can be the official veterinarian of the North Pole, every veterinarian can be part of Santa's emergency veterinary team on Christmas Eve. AVMA members are encouraged to get festive by downloading a badge to let clients know you’re part of Santa's Emergency Landing and Veterinary Expert System (E.L.V.E.S.) support team. There’s still time to participate!
- Post your badge on your clinic’s social media channels.
- Print the badge to display in your clinic’s waiting room.
- Share this video of Dr. Howe explaining how he ensures the reindeer are healthy for their holiday task.
Joining in the fun with the E.L.V.E.S. team gives you a great opportunity to educate clients about the various ways veterinarians keep animals healthy—reindeer included! To help with that, you’ll find more information about Dr. Howe's role as North Pole Veterinarian—including answers to kids' questions about reindeer and even a sharable copy of the reindeer’s certificate of veterinary inspection—at avma.org/Santa.
