Veterinarians have until April 16 to provide comments to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the use of cannabis-derived products in animals.

The FDA is looking specifically for information from practicing veterinarians, focusing on cannabidiol products and other products derived from hemp. The agency hopes to better understand veterinarians’ experience related to the use of these products in patients, including areas such as these:

  • General patterns of use (animal species, brands, formulations, doses, indications for use)
  • Quality standards
  • Benefits of use
  • Potential drug interactions
  • Adverse events and safety problems
  • Toxicological concerns
