Call for volunteers: Veterinarians needed to guide test development
Would you like to help revise the clinical proficiency exam used to determine educational equivalence of graduates of unaccredited foreign veterinary schools?
The AVMA Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates® (ECFVG)® is looking for veterinarians to help define the knowledge and skills these graduates should be expected to demonstrate before being certified as eligible for licensure or work in the United States or Canada.
Veterinarians of all kinds are encouraged to take part, and no special expertise beyond your veterinary education and experience is needed.
What does participation entail?
The volunteers will serve as “subject matter experts” to develop the new clinical proficiency exam that serves as the final certification step for graduates of foreign veterinary schools that aren’t accredited by the AVMA Council on Education®.
All veterinarians are encouraged to apply, from recent graduates to seasoned specialists.
Volunteers will attend at least one test development workshop (2-3 days) in Schaumburg, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. Participants will earn up to 4 hours of CE credit per day and receive a stipend, in addition to having travel expenses paid.
Who: Veterinarians from all facets of the profession and at all career stages are welcome. Current ECFVG candidates and those who received ECFVG certification within the last 5 years are not eligible.
What: Volunteers will take part in one or more 2-3-day test development workshops at AVMA headquarters. Participants will work as a group to identify knowledge and skills expected of graduates of AVMA COE-accredited veterinary colleges across small animal, equine, and food animal practice. If time allows, they will then develop initial drafts of test content (questions, prompts, etc.).
When: Dates for workshops will be identified over the next 12 months. The first is expected to take place in mid to late summer 2025.
Where: Workshops will be held at AVMA headquarters in Schaumburg, Illinois.
How: All travel expenses will be paid, and participants will earn a stipend of $500 per day and CE credit up to 4 hours per day.
This is a unique opportunity to work with new colleagues and contribute to an essential project that will serve veterinary medicine for years to come. All veterinarians are encouraged to apply, from recent graduates to seasoned specialists.
