From advocating for funding for key veterinary programs to working to block a prescription mandate that would impact all veterinarians, AVMA’s Governmental Relations Division (GRD) has been hard at work this year.

The AVMA GRD recently updated its legislative agenda for the first session of the 114th Congress. It includes more than 20 pieces of legislation that AVMA staff is tracking in both chambers of Congress, covering issues from animal health and welfare to food safety and research to small business and student loan issues.

The legislative agenda provides a snapshot of where the AVMA spends its time and resources on either working to pass or stop bills in Congress. It is updated throughout the year as new bills are introduced in Congress and once they have been fully reviewed by AVMA councils and committees and approved by the AVMA Board of Directors.

Be sure to bookmark AVMA’s Web page for all congressional activities. You can take action on any of these bills by writing your member of Congress through the AVMA Congressional Advocacy Network.
