Editor's Note: This post has been updated to indicate that the list of eligible states is kept up to date at avmatrustahp.com.
As a member-run organization, the AVMA understands the unique health insurance needs of veterinarians. We’re thrilled to be able to resume sponsoring health insurance coverage for some of our small-business members.
Beginning today, eligible employers can begin enrolling in AVMA-sponsored health plans for their businesses in nine states. The AVMA Trust Association Health Plan will offer health coverage to all eligible employees of the enrolled businesses, as well as their dependents. Coverage under the plans can take effect as early as September 1.
To be eligible for enrollment, business owners must meet the following requirements:
- Be an active AVMA member
- Primarily conduct business in one of the nine eligible states
- Employ between two and 50 people, including the employer
- Offer coverage to all employees and enroll at least 75 percent of eligible employees
- Pay at least 50 percent of the premium of the lowest single rate per enrolled employee

Help us expand the program
Coverage currently includes nine states, but we're moving aggressively to expand the program. You can help. As we work on this state by state, it’s important that policymakers hear from veterinarians like you. Here are specific actions you can take:
AVMA is powered by 93,000-plus members, and our strength lies in our shared commitment to protect, promote, and advance veterinarians and veterinary medicine. Your involvement can help expand this affordable, accessible health insurance coverage to serve all of your AVMA colleagues.
