Would you like to learn about and help with accreditation reviews at veterinary medical colleges?

The AVMA Council on Education® (AVMA COE®) is accepting applications through January 15, 2025, from veterinarians interested in serving as AVMA COE site visitors. Veterinarians engaged in all facets of veterinary medicine are encouraged to apply.

What do site visitors do?

Site visitors conduct veterinary medical college accreditation site visits on behalf of the COE. This involves carefully reviewing a college’s self-study; verifying the information during a comprehensive, in-person visit at the college; and submitting a report to the COE. While site visitors make recommendations to the COE, they do not attend council meetings, discuss their findings, or otherwise participate in accreditation decisions.

Site reviews are a crucial part of the educational accreditation process, and the COE provides free training to all site visitors in preparation for the work. Site visitors serve six-year terms, renewable once.

The position involves travel, both national and international, with all associated costs paid by the college. Site visitors can expect to spend at least five-six days per year away from home, with additional preparation time for each visit.

Save the date: Mandatory training

All applicants must be available to attend in-person training September 26-28, 2025, in Schaumburg, Illinois. A limited number of site visitors will be trained in 2025.

The AVMA COE’s policy governing eligibility, application, and appointment of site visitors can be found in section 2.3.5 of the Policies and Procedures Manual of the AVMA Council on Education
