Formal Title: Docket No. APHIS-2012-0103; Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, USDA: Notice of Proposed Alteration to an Existing Privacy Act System of Records. (May 12, 2015)
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has proposed to alter a system of records, entitled Veterinary Services--Records of Accredited Veterinarians, which maintains information pertaining to veterinarians who are or have been accredited, or who have applied for accreditation, under the authority of section 10410 of the Animal Health Protection Act (7 U.S.C. 8309).
Excerpt from the AVMA Response:
Removal of veterinarians’ social security numbers from the records system as the USDA proposes is a step forward in reducing risk of identity theft were the system to be breached. However, we object to the proposed addition of dates of birth to the records system. Considering other data points to be maintained on each individual within the system, we believe that including date of birth is unnecessary and may contribute to vulnerabilities in personal identity security.
