During the year, the AVMA-Congressional Advocacy Network travels around the country, participating in veterinary medical conferences and encouraging individuals to participate in AVMA's grassroots activities. Recently, we traveled to the North American Veterinary Conference (NAVC) in Orlando and to the Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) in Las Vegas.
GRD staff spoke with veterinarians and other professionals about the AVMA's 112th Congress Legislative Agenda and encouraged them to play an active role in AVMA's advocacy efforts by signing up to be a member of the AVMA-CAN and sending letters to Congress.
Close to 400 advocates sent letters to Capitol Hill encouraging their Members of Congress to oppose H.R. 1406, the Fairness to Pet Owners Act. A great start to the year but we need more veterinarians to discuss this issue with their Members of Congress
The next few months will be busy with visits to Indiana for the SAVMA Symposium at Purdue University and then to the Central Veterinary Conference (CVC) in Washington, D.C. If you are planning on attending any of these shows, be sure to stop by the AVMA-CAN booth and take action!
