Representing veterinarians at a national level
As the nation's leading representative of the veterinary profession, the AVMA advocates for public policy that supports veterinarians and protects animal health, animal welfare, and public health.
Through our government relations office in Washington, we advance policies that benefit the veterinary profession and reflect veterinary principles—and work to defeat proposals that do not. AVMA serves as the veterinary profession's voice before Congress, federal agencies, and the courts.
Our priority advocacy issues include:
- Rural veterinary care
- Student debt
- Small business issues
- Pharmaceuticals
- Animal welfare
- Animal health
- Public health and food safety
AVMA’s legislative agenda details all of the bills on which the AVMA took a position in the previous session of Congress.
