Dr. Elizabeth Boggier

Candidate: AVMA vice-president (2026-28)

Statement by the candidate

Leading change; Strengthening veterinary futures

I’m Dr. Elizabeth Boggier, and my passion for veterinary medicine runs deep—from the exam room to the classroom, from policy discussions to the heart of student mentorship. As I run for AVMA vice-president, I do so with a strong sense of purpose: to be a dedicated advocate for veterinary students and serve as a bridge between our educational community and the AVMA.

Throughout my career, I’ve worn many hats—small animal practitioner, clinic owner, mentor, advocate, and educator—but one constant has been my commitment to the next generation of veterinarians. I believe this role demands not just representation but real connection with students and the schools that train them.

Like many of you, I faced the upheaval of COVID-19 head-on, running a small animal practice through uncertainty, fear, and constant adaptation. I witnessed the birth and rapid evolution of telemedicine. I navigated the challenges of online pharmacy competition and endured the strain of staffing shortages that shook our field. And yet, through all of it, my love for this profession never wavered. If anything, it deepened.

These experiences shaped me, not just as a practitioner but as someone who believes in the strength and adaptability of veterinary medicine. They showed me what we’re capable of—and how critical it is that we prepare our future colleagues to face change with confidence and support.

As AVMA vice-president, I will focus on:

  • Championing veterinary students with a clear voice at the table—listening to your concerns, advocating for your future, and ensuring the AVMA remains accessible, relevant, and student-centered.
  • Strengthening ties with U.S. and international veterinary schools, fostering collaboration, innovation, and shared learning across borders.
  • Promoting mentorship and professional resilience, ensuring new graduates are not only clinically prepared but emotionally supported and career-ready.
  • Elevating the One Health mission, connecting veterinary medicine more deeply with human and environmental health in the classroom and beyond.

I still practice clinical medicine because I love it—the hands-on care, the client relationships, the teamwork. But I also find joy in the energy and enthusiasm of students. There is nothing more rewarding than sharing in your journey and helping pave the way for a brighter, more sustainable future in veterinary medicine.

Let’s shape the future of veterinary medicine—together.
