Dr. Libby Coleman Todd

 

District 3 AVMA Board of Directors representative

Dr. Libby Coleman Todd served as the AVMA delegate from Alabama, and as chair and a member of the AVMA House Advisory Committee, before joining the Board of Directors in 2025.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Dr. Todd received her DVM from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University in 1999, receiving the Dean's Pegasus Award as outstanding graduate as well as the Gentle Doctor award upon graduation.

She practiced small animal medicine for 24 years and worked as a general practice mentor for one year with National Veterinary Associates.

In addition to her veterinary training and experience, Dr. Todd has pursued additional specialized training in the study of grief and bereavement and received her certificate in thanatology from the University of Alabama in 2005. This education allows her to help her clients through the difficult time surrounding the illness and death of a beloved family pet.

Dr. Todd is a past president of both the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and the Jefferson County Veterinary Medical Association. She served as a member of the AVMA Early Career Development Committee from 2012-15, and was a participant in the inaugural class of the AVMA Future Leaders Program in 2011-12.

In 2015, she was awarded the Dean's Pegasus Award for Meritorious Service by the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine, and in 2017, she was selected as an alumni fellow by her alma mater. She and her husband, John, live in Birmingham with their cats Leroy, Bruce and Abe.
