Biographical sketch
Dr. Douglas Kratt, a small animal practitioner from Wisconsin, has a long history of veterinary leadership, including serving as AVMA president. Since earning his DVM from the University of Wisconsin, he has devoted over two decades to advancing animal health and welfare, veterinary wellness, education, and the business of veterinary medicine.
Among his many leadership roles, Dr. Kratt is a past president of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA) and represented Wisconsin as a delegate in the AVMA House of Delegates. He was elected AVMA president-elect in 2019 and assumed the presidency in 2020, emphasizing vision, collaboration, and innovation.
Dr. Kratt's clinical interests encompass surgery, nutrition, and wellness care, reflecting a commitment to comprehensive animal health. He and his wife, Dr. Kimberly Kratt, co-own Central Animal Hospital in Onalaska, Wisconsin, an American Animal Hospital Association-accredited clinic.
He is deeply involved in community service, including providing veterinary care to canine police officers in west central Wisconsin and the Wisconsin State Patrol. He also participates in local organizations such as Oktoberfest USA in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
