The AVMA House of Delegates, at the August 2012 annual meeting, elected Dr. Patrick Farrell representing private food animal, Dr. Mary Beth Leininger representing the at large position, and Dr. Billy Martindale representing private clinical practice, to the Council on Education.
Dr. Farrell is the president and CEO of the Russell Veterinary Hospital and Dairy Health Management Consultants LLC in Russell, Pennsylvania. He earned a DVM from the University of Wisconsin. In addition to being a member of the AVMA he is also a member of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the American Animal Hospital Association.
Dr. Leininger is the vice president for veterinary relations at The Hartville Group in Canton, Ohio. She earned a DVM from Purdue University and is a former member of the AVMA Executive Board. She served as the AVMA president from 1996-97.
Dr. Martindale is employed at the Animal Hospital of Denison in Texas. He earned a DVM from Texas A&M University. He is a former president of the Texas VMA and has served on the AVMA House of Delegates.
At its Spring 2012 meeting the COE elected two new public members, Ms. B. E. Colway and Ms. Jennifer Foster.
Ms. Colway earned her BS in Education from the University of Missouri-Columbia and an MS in Social Work from the University of Tennessee. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a board member of the Mental Health Association of East Tennessee. She is also a member of the National Association of Social Workers.Ms. Foster earned her BS in Nursing from Vanderbilt University and a JD from the University of Georgia. She has worked as a cardiovascular nurse at Emory University Hospital. While practicing law she represented the Georgia Hospital Association and actively assisted hospitals throughout the State of Georgia in maintaining their accreditation with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
All new COE members began their terms in August 2012.
