Task force to study international accreditation

Summer 2011

The AVMA Executive Board approved a recommendation from the AVMA House of Delegates to establish a 10-member Task Force to study whether American veterinarians benefit from the AVMA Council on Education's accreditation of foreign veterinary schools and the impact this accreditation has on the veterinary profession in the United States. The Task Force will spend about $25,000 on two meetings and four teleconferences. In addition, AVMA staff leaders were instructed to submit a report to the House of Delegates on the AVMA's role and expenses for international activities. The AVMA-COE currently accredits 16 schools outside the U.S., which includes five schools in Canada.
