In March 2011, the Utah State Legislature approved $1.7 million funding to establish a veterinary school at Utah State University (USU). The bill now goes to Governor Gary Herbert for his signature.
Once signed into law, the new DVM program can potentially begin accepting students as early as fall 2011 with course work beginning in 2012.
The Program will be conducted as a 2 + 2 program in cooperation with Washington State University (WSU). Students will spend the first two years studying basic veterinary science concepts at USU and the second two years at WSU in clinically oriented instruction and clinical rotation at a veterinary hospital and off-site preceptorships. The program will accept 30 new students a year, 20 from Utah and 10 nonresidents.
