COE eligible for CHEA recognition review

Spring 2011

The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) Board of Directors determined at its meeting on January 24, 2011, that the AVMA Council on Education is eligible to undertake a recognition review. The purpose of CHEA recognition is "to advance academic quality, demonstrate accountability, and encourage where appropriate scrutiny and planning for change and needed improvement."

To achieve recognition the COE will submit a self-evaluation report providing evidence that it meets CHEA recognition standards, and demonstrating the quality of their activities and the value of their service to higher education and the public. A representative from CHEA will visit a COE accreditation decision making meeting to observe how the COE's activities relate to CHEA eligibility and recognition standards. The CHEA Committee on Recognition will review the self-evaluation, the report of the observation visit and any third party requests for comment and make a recommendation to the CHEA Board of Directors.
