Dr. Andrea Fascetti, Professor of Nutrition at the University of California-Davis, was presented with the AVMF/Winn Feline Foundation Research Award at the 2016 Merial NIH Veterinary Scholars Symposium at The Ohio State University. The symposium provided a forum for over 470 veterinary students to present the results of their summer research projects and interact with experienced investigators and a venue for celebration of accomplishments in veterinary reseach, including award of the prestigious AVMA Excellence in Research Awards. Dr. Fascetti's extensive contributions to the expansion of veterinary nutrition include research of trace mineral and amino acid metabolism, obesity, carnivore nutrition, nutritional idiosyncrasies of the cat, and improvement of pet foods and clinical nutrition. Her presentation, which highlighted some of that research, also included some support for the budding researchers in the audience. "Don't live in your fears", she said, "regarding failures or worries about what to study. I have more questions to pursue now than I have time to perform".
