Practice Management CE Curriculum

Grow Your Business Improve Financial Performance

AVMA’s Practice Profitability Program is a series of interactive, experiential learning sessions especially geared toward veterinary practice owners and practice managers. If you answer “yes” to any of the following questions, be sure to explore AVMA’s Practice Profitability CE opportunities:

  • Is your practice successful, but you’re looking to take it to the next level?
  • Are you part of a practice that is struggling with making money?
  • Do you want to know what to expect from the economy?
  • Are you looking to improve the workplace of your organization?

This unique program brings in expertise from across the industry, incorporating proprietary content from Banfield Pet Hospital, Henry Schein Animal Health and VMG. The practice profitability curriculum is offered at two levels, to meet the business needs of all learners. View all Practice Profitability Core sessions at AVMA Convention 2017.

Go beyond Convention CE

These Practice Profitability Core sessions are open to any AVMA Convention attendee. However, practices that want to get more from the experience have a unique opportunity at AVMA Convention to join a program that supports you in implementing what you learn after you return home.  The AVMA is looking for a limited number of practice teams – consisting of one practice owner or associate veterinarian, plus one practice manager – to attend together and participate in the Practice Profitability Program as part of a working group of professionals. Participating teams who complete the 12 Practice Profitability Level 1 sessions may be eligible for a reduced registration option, and also will benefit from a series of expert follow-up consultations that apply directly to your practice. Practices interested in participating in this unique program should contact avmaecon@avma.org to complete a short application for this extended opportunity.

Already completed the practice profitability level 1 curriculum?

About the Practice Profitability Curriculum

The practice profitability curriculum includes a variety of Practice Profitability Core sessions in two designated levels: Level 1 and Level 2. Convention attendees also are encouraged to attend other practice management CE sessions, which support the Practice Profitability Core sessions.

Practice Profitability Core: Level 1

Level 1 Practice Profitability Core sessions are a great opportunity to learn about basic financial and economic principles, strategies for building client relationships and improving staff functions, and workplace operations that support successful practice management.

Learn about:

  • Finance: Basic accounting principles and the use of financial ratios for tracking financial performance.
  • Operations:  Staffing, staff assignments, team building, and goal implementation as part of workplace culture.
  • Strategies: The impact of client relationships on financial performance and improving internal functions and roles.
  • Economics & Marketing: How the veterinary practice interacts with the U.S. economy and how to determine the size and competition of local veterinary markets.

Practice Profitability Core: Level 2

Level 2 Practice Profitability Core sessions provide an advanced learning experience that builds on the Level 1 program. It is recommended that attendees have previously completed the Level 1 Core curriculum and/or are comfortable with Level 1 subject matter. This curriculum is heavily based on strategies and implementation, including hands-on exercises and specific methods to achieve your goals for your practice.

Learn about:

  • Operations:  Onboarding and communication tactics that facilitate the training and mentoring of associates in medicine, surgery, and communications.
  • Strategies: Theoretical and practical application of specific valuation models, as well as practical strategy implementation.
  • Economics & Marketing: How to identify and adopt appropriate business models for specific markets.
