Dr. Michael Bailey(INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana) Dr. Michael Q. Bailey, who was elected to the post last spring, succeeds Dr. Mark Helfat as the District II representative for AVMA members living in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

"I look forward to serving on the AVMA Board and to doing what I can to help make veterinary medicine a better profession for my peers and for future generations of veterinarians," said Bailey.

He then opened a veterinary imaging center in central Ohio, which provided the first veterinary-specific CT scanner and advanced veterinary imaging services in that state. During that time, he completed an AVMA/American Association for the Advancement of Science congressional fellowship in the U.S. House of Representatives. After returning to private practice in an ER/referral specialty hospital, Bailey developed a new imaging service in the eastern part of Pittsburgh. In 2009, he joined MARS/Banfield Pet Hospital as lead radiologist. During his experience as an educator and radiologist, he has lectured extensively nationally and internationally on imaging, radiation safety and therapeutic radiology.

A longtime supporter and member of organized veterinary medicine, Bailey has served in the AVMA House of Delegates as an alternate delegate for Pennsylvania. He has also been a member of the board of trustees for the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association, where he currently serves as immediate past president, and is an active diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology.

Bailey received his veterinary degree from the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine.
